Full Biography

Mr. Howie was born in Galveston, Texas. He lived in Galveston with his mother until she relocated the family to California in order to pursue her education. Mr. Howie and his mother resided in Richmond, California for seven years. Upon completion of his mother's education, the family relocated to Huntsville, Alabama where Mr. Howie entered high school at Huntsville High.

Mr. Howie then moved to live with his grandparents in Galveston and graduated from Ball High School. Upon graduating, he enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin and recieved his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, in 2001. He then attended law school at the University of Houston and received his Juris Doctor in 2004. During law school, Mr. Howie worked as a clerk at a prestigious Houston law firm and also worked as a legislative intern at the Texas State Capitol.

In May 2005, Mr. Howie accepted his commission from the United States Air Force. He began serving on active duty in the USAF in July 2005 and his official date of separation from active duty military service was September 28, 2009. Mr. Howie and his wife, Melanie, chose to return to Alabama to raise their family after completing their active duty military service.

Mr. Howie's current practice draws on his strengths developed as a trial attorney during his military service. He excels at representing clients as a criminal defense lawyer due to his experience as a prosecutor. His time as a military lawyer also enables him to effectively assist veterans in claims against the Veteran's Affairs Administration as well as reservists in employment claims under USERRA.

Mr. Howie's practice also draws on his experience in private practice before serving as a prosecutor where he gained valuable knowledge in the areas of bankruptcy, debt collection, breach of contract, tort actions, personal injury, medical malpractice claims and litigation, defense of lender liability lawsuits, landlord tenant disputes, wills and estates, criminal defense, and various other legal and business matters.

Mr. Howie continues to serve his country in the reserves. He has been promoted to the rank of Major since completing his active duty service and teaches trial advocacy at military installations worldwide. Mr. Howie is also involved in the local community. He has coached his son's chess and basketball teams and he also serves as a board member for Operation Making a Difference, which seeks to help disadvantaged kids in Huntsville. Mr. Howie lives with his wife Melanie, their son Ashton, their daughter Allesandra, and their dog Alpine.

He entered the Air Force through the Direct Appointment Program on May 27, 2005 and began his active duty service on July 3, 2005. His official date of separation from active duty was September 28, 2009. Prior to joining the Air Force, Mr. Howie served as Chief of Staff to a representative at the Texas State Capitol in Austin. As an attorney in private practice he has excelled at serving clients throughout Texas, including Austin, Houston and Galveston, with effective and efficient legal representation in various civil and criminal matters, including personal injury, premises liability litigation, criminal defense, DUI litigation, debt collection, construction law, business law, contract law and family law.

As a government attorney, Mr. Howie's military career took him all over the United States. He first served for two years as a military attorney at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. He was last stationed at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Mr. Howie deployed to the Joint Task Force Civil Support to provide legal support for domestic operations related to the global war on terrorism.

While on active duty, Mr. Howie served in numerous capacities. He oversaw and managed a program in Tucson which provided legal assistance to deploying airmen on civil law matters, including wills, powers of attorney, general legal guidance on domestic relations, family law, personal injury, bankruptcy, consumer affairs, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), and Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Mr. Howie also tirelessly reviewed government contracts valued at over $25 million.

Mr. Howie prosecuted criminals and worked diligently as a trial attorney for the government, working to ensure justice and securing convictions in 17 courts-martial. One case he successfully handled led to the first and only life sentence imposed at Pope Air Force Base. Mr. Howie also acted as the government's representative and advocate in countless administrative proceedings.

Mr. Howie additionally served as Special Assistant to the United States Attorney at the Department of Justice. Serving as the sole federal prosecutor, he personally prosecuted over 300 federal cases involving an array of criminal offenses, including minor traffic infractions, larceny, theft, drug offenses, domestic violence, DUI and DWI litigation, as well as child neglect and abuse.

Mr. Howie has been a member of the Texas Bar since 2004 and the Alabama Bar since 2010. He is also a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.
